AFS MASK ZOOM!!!
Young people from around the world, living with host families locally, and for whom AFS Intercultural Programs has not yet been able to secure flight home, have been joining in the effort to find ways to help during the pandemic. Seven students from Senegal, Thailand, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay and Ukraine, 3 of whom have volunteered once a month since September to serve the guests of Hesed House, jumped on the chance to help make masks for them.
April 17th
Thanks to all our amazing team members crafting, driving and donating.. we were able to secure the supplies for another 10,000 masks!!!! We are almost up to 16,000 masks out for making and given to our community!!!!!
Did you know we team members from all around the WORLD?!!! Students from Senegal, Thailand, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay and Ukraine are living with host families spending their time awaiting to get home are making masks for those in need in our community! Thank you Robbin Mester Lang for all the amazing work you do with AFS Intercultural Programs, and coordinating this effort! Hard to put into words how grateful those who receive masks from all of us!!!! I received the most amazing text from one of the healthcare professionals.. this is what they sent:

I discharged an oncology patient for palliative care:
Very sick 49 year old African American male with metastatic Laryngeal Cancer. He just finished his 6th cycle of chemotherapy
He is going home to a high rise apartment with his wife, daughter , grandchildren.
I asked if they have masks at home?
The wife said they don’t have any. I gave them a bag of disposable masks. I told them that everybody should wear it around the house.
The wife was like in tears when I gave her the bag of masks...
We are so lucky to have this wonderful team of caring people all coming together to make stories like this possible!!!
